About this place
Piled onto a platter alongside enough vegetables to take up half the dish, the signature zangi (Hokkaido-style fried chicken) is one of the essential orders when visiting Hokuto monogatari. With generous portions and comforting seasoning that evokes home-cooked fare, it pairs effortlessly with that first round of drinks.
Market deliveries shape the sashimi selection, which regularly features tuna, salmon, spear squid, and raw octopus listed on wall strips. Hokkaido influences carry through to other drinking snacks, including mutton jingisukan and nanohana nishinzuke (pickled herring with rapeseed blossoms), giving diners an enticing choice between seafood and meat.
The supporting menu remains pleasantly unpretentious: sake-steamed clams, yudofu (warm tofu in broth), fragrant grilled squid, and thick slices of ham katsu offer classic izakaya comforts. It is an appealing setup for settling in with draft beer, Hoppy, or a shared bottle of shochu while grazing on small plates at an unhurried pace.
The izakaya runs from 17:00 to 23:00 in the evening, taking Wednesdays off. Smoking is permitted inside, and payments can be settled in cash or via PayPay, making it a handy everyday stop for solo drinks or casual group gatherings.
